History 1700
History 1700 has been a great class that has expanded my knowledge on our county's past! I have learned many great new things and got in depth on facts I had already known! This paper was on something new I learned, about the 1902 coal strike and what Theodor Roosevelt did for our country!

History 1700
Reflection #2
The coal strike of 1902 was a great one. Miners wanted more pay along with
shorter working hours. Minors
didn’t fall quietly they lashed out and attacked.
It was a huge chaos. The
President had to step in if he really cared, and he did (Grossman 1975,
online).
“Roosevelt, who had been injured a month earlier when his carriage was
hit by a trolley car, sat in his wheelchair pleading with representatives of
management and labor” (Grossman 1975, online). President Roosevelt was such a great man
and cared about the people he stuck to his duties even though he had his own
trials going on. In the State of
the Union Address he said ‘I ask that there be an immediate resumption of
operations in the coal mines in some such way as will…meet the crying needs of
the people’(Grossman 1975, online).
With that statement alone we could see what a great man he was and how
much he cared for the people.
Although Roosevelt took a few months to come out after the strike
occurred with the address, I still think he meant the best.
I think he was waiting it out to see where it went on its own. But he saw the disasters taking place
and took action. He addressed the
Union in such a bold manner. I
think he addressed it the best way he could (Roosevelt 1902,
online).
